Music

Music is one of the most wonderful gifts God has given us.  What would our worship be like without the joyful expression of God's people through song?

Candle of Peace

Our peace candle was a gift from the First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma...their peace candle was given them by the First Presbyterian Church in Independence, Missouri. We plan to discover ways to "pass the peace" of Christ with candles to other churches and people. On September 11, the Ten-Year Anniversary of the terrible terrorist attacks on our country, we added a new portion to our worship service. After the Assurance of Forgiveness and Our Joyful Response, our pastor lights the Candle for Peace.

From where did the "Candle of Peace" idea come?

In 1986, a group of American Christians were visiting Russia. After a service in a Russian Orthodox Church, an elderly woman pushed three rubles into the hands of the minister leading the group, Dr. Blair Monie, and asked him to buy a candle and light it at services in his church as a symbol of peace.

When he returned home, he bought a glass holder and placed it on the communion table at his church, the First Presbyterian Church, York, PA, and the candle is lit at every service of worship. Later that year, the congregation decided to buy a supply of candles and holders inviting members to send them to other churches.

Fear, uncertainty, doubt, and numerous other forces are at war within us. The peace of God moves into our hearts and lives to restrain these hostile forces and offer comfort in place of conflict. Jesus says he will give us that peace if we are willing to accept it from Him.

A special display in the sanctuary on September 11 included hand-made paper doves and our new candle to signify God's promise of peace.  "Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid."

We invite you to join with our congregation, and an ever-expanding group of churches around the world, in praying in the name of the Prince of Peace for world peace.

Stained Glass Windows Project

Would you like to help provide our sanctuary with a set of stained glass windows over the bell table?  If you would like to honor or memorialize a loved one by contributing to this Fund or to support the project, print the Windows Fund form or copy/paste the form from the link into an email to the church office and then mail or deliver your payment to the church office. You may also put your check with this form in the offering plate.  A third way to contribute is through PayPal using the "Donate" button on the left side of the Home page

For a donation of $25 or more, you can have your name and the name of the person to be honored or remembered on a plaque in the Narthex.  Together, let's create a memorial to further beautify the sanctuary.

Children in Worship and Child Care

During the service, there is a special time for our children to gather with our Director of Faith Formation and our Pastor.  All children are invited to stay for the whole service, but if younger children (younger than first grade) and their parents wish, we offer child care in the nursery.  We provide child care for infants and toddlers during Sunday school and worship as well.

Children are also invited to enjoy one of our furry Pew Pals during worship.  They are located in various chairs in the sanctuary or out in the narthex in a special box for our Pew Pal collection.  In addition, we provide worship bags for children in which they will find activities related to the scriptures of the day, as well as a children's book and blank paper and crayons.  We ask that the bags and the Pew Pals be left at the church, so they can be enjoyed again the next Sunday.

The Sacraments

On the first Sunday of each month, plus at other special times of the year, we share in the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper.  Our communion table is open to anyone who loves the Lord Jesus Christ and wants to love him more.

Ordinarily, we baptize infants and young children, but people of all ages are invited to come to the font for baptism, if they have never been baptized in a Christian church.  Parents who wish to have their child baptized or individuals who wish to join our church and be baptized should speak to our Pastor to make plans for this occasion.

Style of Worship

At RRPC, our worship is a blend of both traditional and contemporary styles which is evident in our music and liturgies.  The order of our worship follows the Presbyterian Book of Common Worship and our "Directory of Worship."   However, we also enjoy liturgies from such places as the Iona Abbey in Scotland, and music from all over the world.

Preaching and sacraments are central to Presbyterian worship which is true here at RRPC as well.  Our pastor preaches Biblically-based sermons which speak both to our everyday discipleship and the world we live in.

Stewardship

Every week in worship, we have the opportunity to dedicate our lives and our resources to Christ's mission in the world.  We share what God has given us through our time and talent as well as our financial resources to support God's mission in the world through our church.  At RRPC, we also share with the wider church through financial support of our presbytery, synod, and General Assembly.  Four times a year, we receive special offerings to support special ministries of the PC(USA).  Also, four times a year, when there is a fifth Sunday , we receive the 2 Cents-a-Meal offering for Storehouse West.  Learn more about these special offerings in Missions.
