On our annual Youth Sunday, May 13, our congregation was treated to a series of young liturgists, praise music that rocked, helpful ushers, a clarinet solo, Matuke as pianist assisted by Jennifer Stull, and two performances by the Ribaltimento Bells.  Since many of us didn't know the Christian rock tunes, the trio of Caitlin, Katie B, and Socorro helped us out, with Katie L on the drums. Thanks to the Youth leaders Lori and Linn, and to the two Katies, Claire, Grant, Anna, Caitlin, Henry, Bree, Dani, Matuke, and Socorro.  Retiring volunteer Shirley Underwood was presented a plaque by Music Director Jake Rittenhouse for her seven years of directing our Ribaltimento and Ju-Bell-ation Ringers handbell groups.

Director of Faith Formation Lori Osburn is "Leaving"

Lori Osburn

...her position, not the church!  Let us thank God for the six years of Lori's service.  Lori and Blake Osburn are charter members of RRPC. This is their faith home and faith family, so, we will still enjoy their presence with us. We will have to get used to Lori being a member rather than a staff member. Join us Sunday, June 24, when we celebrate her six years of service. Her last day is Friday, June 29.

Summer Rummage Sale July 14

Last year's sale was a huge success and helped MOPS get off the ground for its first year. Some of those funds are being used now to hire a childcare worker to help our volunteers.

This year, we're going to share the wealth, so to speak, and share the work and proceeds with our youth ministry program. If you are still doing your spring cleaning or just want to get rid of some stuff, please save it for our sale. If you really cannot store it until July, contact Gina (896-6892), Linn (867-8306) or Randy (417-0247).

Phyllis Rasmussen, June and Dick DeFore, and the Kelleys are Shepherds

Thank you, Phyllis Rasmussen, Dick and June DeFore, and Virginia/Fred Kelley for being Shepherds to our new members, Roberta Purcell, the Woods, and the Shanklins, respectively!  The Membership Commission has a mentoring program for new members call Shepherds for New Members.  They help ensure that our newcomers have found a spiritual and friendly church home by having a partner or partners to rely on...but only if the new member(s) choose(s) to accept.

Since we have been blessed this year to be welcoming many new members, the Shepherd's program needs more Shepherds.  Please contact email Shawn Campbell or call 867.0744 if you have questions or are interested in volunteering.

Community Partners Tags at Albertsons

The Albertsons Community Partners Program is a way to donate to the church using key tags by shopping at Albertsons.  The tags are already programmed for our church -- all you have to do is use the tag at checkout.

The church can potentially earn up to $6,000 a quarter or $24,000 a year. If key tag holders spend $49,999 over one quarter, the church will get a 1% rebate on purchases. If the total is $50,000 or more in one quarter, the church will get a 5% additional rebate on the amount over $50K.

100 RRPC tag holders can easily have quarterly total spending of $500 for groceries, health and beauty items, household products, and prescription drugs.

-- If 100 members spending $5 a week over one quarter have their key tag scanned at checkout, for a total of $6,000, the church will receive a check for $60 at the end of the quarter.

-- If 100 members spend $25 a week and have their tag scanned, we will receive $325.

Be sure to pick up your key tag in the narthex and use it at Albertsons!

Youth Group Hawks Desserts Successfully

Socorro, Grant, and Henry

The Youth raised money for Youth mission work and activities -- a soup luncheon followed by an auction of delectable desserts.  Most of the items were home-made...even better!  Talented auctioneers Grant and Henry called out opening bids, and other Youth displayed the desserts at the front of the room, and then carried them through the tables while bidders called out ever-escalating bids.  They raised $425 by appealing to the unflagging sweet teeth in the audence.  They are thankful for the generous support of the bidders and bakers.

Member Spotlight: Osburn Homecoming

Tim and Alia Osburn and their three children surprised Lori on Sunday morning just as she was starting the Children's Sermon.  Blake was a co-conspirator and was seen outside with the family before church.  Applause broke out as Tim and his family came right down the center aisle.

Sgt. Osburn is currently stationed at Ft. Hood and has been deployed to the Middle East several times.  They stayed a week, and enjoyed seeing Lori's father and spending time in Rio Rancho.

Member Spotlight: Former Pan Am Hostess Tells All

A 1936 article in the New York Times described the requirements for a career as a flight attendant.  "The girls who qualify for hostesses must be petite; weight 100 to 118 pounds; height 5 feet to 5 feet 4 inches; age 20 to 26 years. Add to that the rigid physical examination each must undergo four times every year, and you are assured of the bloom that goes with perfect health."  Were the same requirements in place 21 years later when Catherine Dau interviewed for work as a Pan Am "hostess".

Child Care Needed for Moppets

We need help caring for the children of moms attending MOPS meetings.  The children are less than a year up to nine years old. This is a great way to introduce the love of Christ to kids.  In 2012, volunteers are needed 9:15-11:45 on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month, through May.  Just ask Randy Morphew and Lynn Morgan how much fun it is.

Help us spread the word about MOPS so we can grow our group of Moms.  If you know any newcomers to Rio Rancho with small children, tell them about our MOPS program.  It's great for moms to have a place to meet and give and receive the support of other moms.

Please contact MOPS Coordinator Gina Mitchell at 896-6892 or by email.
